Microneedling in Baltimore, MD

Fine wrinkles or surface irregularities on the skin can be treated with a minimally invasive technique called microneedling. At Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer microneedling treatments for men and women in the Baltimore, Towson, and Columbia areas.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is a procedure that improves skin texture, treating fine wrinkles and tightening the skin through tiny punctures on the skin surface. This procedure stimulates the production of new collagen and release of growth factors in the skin, which leads to smoother, tighter looking skin. This process is performed using sterile needle tips that are delivered through a handheld device.

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Microneedling is effective for treating scars, skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles, and stretch marks. Microneedling also helps reduce pore size and allow for improved penetration of skin care productions and treatments. This treatment is minimally invasive and is a gentler approach to skin rejuvenation than lasers or radio frequency devices.

The procedure is recommended in a series of three to six treatments, four to six weeks apart. Depending on the amount of rejuvenation or correction needed, additional treatments may be required.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling is safe for all skin types.  Anyone interested in addressing aging and texture,  skin rejuvenation, minimizing scars and stretch marks,  are candidates for this in-office procedure.  The treatment offers less downtime and pain associated with laser alternatives.  Darker skin types that aren’t candidates for laser treatments, can benefit from this procedure as well.

What can I Expect from Microneedling?

Microneedling is performed in the office under local anesthesia. Depending on the location and extent of treatment, topical anesthetic cream or injection of local anesthesia may be used to numb the treatment area. The treated area may be slightly red (similar to a sunburn) for 24 to 48 hours, but if more extensive treatment is needed, the redness may last for up to a week. Some peeling or flaking may occur. Postcare skin treatments can be prescribed to further help the recovery process.

How Long do Results Last from Microneedling?

Results from microneedling may be noticeable as soon as one week after the initial treatment and can last over a year. However, additional treatments are recommended for maximal benefit which will help produce truly long-lasting results.

The cost of microneedling will depend on the extent of treatment necessary to achieve the ideal result. During your consultation with Dr. Hahn, we will provide an individualized assessment and give you a clear breakdown of costs. Dr. Samuel Hahn works with each patient to determine the best personalized treatment plan to achieve natural-looking results.
